This year, Brandon Middle School started a new program called Achieve 3000. For this program, students read nonfiction articles weekly and do activities about them.
The opinion of others about the new program can vary. The Achieve 3000 program is being done because of many reasons: it can better student reading, comprehension, and writing skills. Not only are students in Brandon Middle School doing it, but every school in the Virginia Beach City Public Schools have to do it.
When we interviewed one of the 6th grade Science teacher in Brandon Middle School named Ms. Kennedy, she said,” I think that the Achieve 3000 is very helpful, and it is designed to build the levels of reading by letting students read non-fiction articles.”
The opinion of the teachers and students can be different because sometime they may think that it is helpful to improve reading and writing comprehension or they can think that it is time consuming and it isn’t very hands on, instead it is more of a technology thing.
