The Animal Walk

This Animal Awareness was a huge turnout compared to some of the ones that had happened in the past. It had more than 80 people to show up, causing the club to move from the band room to the cafeteria. There we had the guest speaker from the VBSPCA talk about multiple things related to the organization. She explained that the VBSPCA (Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) brings in animals when people

can’t support them and when it’s needed for the better interest of the animal. She also talked about how when you’re thirteen you will be able to volunteer at the shelter. One of the key things talked about was the walk that took place on October 25th. It was hosted at Neptune’s Park, down at the beach by the Neptune statue, and was an opportunity to donate to the VBSPCA. Which we won top school fundraising for the seventh year in a row.

Though, Animal awareness is more than just that one event that happens. Ms. Pallett, the school’s band teacher, started the club because she felt as though that this was something the students of the school would enjoy. She saw that there were clubs for a lot of the other things a students could want to do, but nothing about animals. So she started the Animal Awareness club and since then more schools have opened clubs of a similar interest. The club tries to have a meeting once a month, and she often tries to have guest speakers. We have had people bring in dogs and ferrets, people who talk about things related to the group they are connected to, and if we don’t have a guest speaker we’ll get to do crafts related to animals. So all in all, the Animal Awareness club is for people who love animals and want to know more about them you should drop by at a meeting, just listen to the morning announcements.
