Books for All! Keep Reading While Virtually Learning

Have you ever been to the school library before or how often do you use the school library? Have you wondered how you could keep reading even when you’re virtual?

When kids went to school face to face, students checked out books from the library, but when we went virtual, there were fewer students checking out books from the library. That’s why the librarians at Brandon Middle School started delivering books so students could access the library while being virtual. According to Ms. Ricks, one of our Library Media Specialist, "We started this service because we wanted to make sure every student could have a book in their hand."

Even though we’re virtual, I have used the school library before to check out a book. When I checked out a book from the school library, it was dropped off to my house, and it even came with a surprising gift in an envelope when it was delivered!

You can also check out a book from the school library to be delivered to your house! Destiny Discovery is an app on Classlink you can go to check out a book.

Here are some tips on how to check out a book from the school library.

Step 1: Log into Classlink

Step 2: Once you logged into Classlink you then go to the Reference Databases page in Classlink.

Step 3: After you went to the Reference Databases page in Classlink then you click the app Destiny Discovery in that page.

Step 4: When you open up Destiny Discovery you have to log into your account by typing in your username and password to check out a book. It asks for a location from where you live and what school you go to. Enter Brandon Middle School, VA

It's that easy! You will be reading a new book in no time.

Now that some students are back in the building, delivery days vary, but our awesome Library Media Assistant, Ms. Labiak, will get your book to you. Just make sure your parent has confirmed that home delivery is ok.

For students in the building, due to COVID you can't browse the shelves anymore, but you can still place books on hold. Your books will be delivered to your homeroom.
