Reading and Writing Clubs

Are you an avid writer or reader? Do you seek to improve your writing or reading skills? Are you trying to show off your writing skills? There are three clubs at Brandon Middle School that can help you improve your writing skill and can help you get your work known. There is the Young Writer’s club, the Newspaper Club, and the No Guilt Book Club.

The Newspaper club is sponsored by Ms. Parham in room 407. They meet every Wednesday after school. The Newspaper Club members write articles for the school newspaper to inform student about current events. They interview teachers, students, and many other people to get information for their articles. When asked why she sponsored the Newspaper Club, Ms. Parham answered,” I sponsored the club because I always had a passion for writing, and when I was in middle and high school, I was on the newspaper staff.”

The Young Writer’s club is also sponsored by Ms. Parham in room 407. They meet every Wednesday after school at the same time as the Newspaper Club. So, if you are in both clubs, you can still meet with both of them. The Young Writer’s Club helps people write. For example, if you are working on a novel, you can read it out loud to club members or send it to them. They will then help you improve your story and give you feedback on it. The club also can help you if you are working on an essay and need help. They will read your story and help with things like grammatical errors. When interviewed, the student who created the Young Writer’s Club said, "I created this club to help everyone who has a passion to write and share stories. If you ever need help with writing, we are more than happy to help!”

The No Guilt Book Club is sponsored by Mrs. Nesbit in room 806. They meet whenever most of the people in the club are free. The No Guilt Book Club is an all girl club where you can meet up with other readers and talk about your favorite books or movies and eat Mrs. Nesbit’s amazing brownies. When asked why she created the No Guilt Book Club, Mrs. Nesbit responded,” I created the club to bring together avid readers so that they can talk about books without the pressure of being assigned a book, and of course because I love books myself.”

In conclusion, if you love to write or need help writing, there are three clubs for you: the Newspaper Club, the Young Writers Club, and The No Guilt Book Club. All of these clubs were made to help writers and readers like you improve their writing and reading skills.
